With the Divine Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Brindavan Campus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) witnessed the joyous inauguration of four new facilities on 5 August 2025. The event marked a significant milestone in the continued growth and enhancement of infrastructure to support the Institute’s mission of integral education—the harmonious blending of academic excellence and character development.

The new facilities were inaugurated by Sri R.J. Rathnakar, Managing Trustee, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT), and Prof. B. Raghavendra Prasad, Vice-Chancellor, SSSIHL, in the Divine Presence and sanctified ambience of Bhagawan’s Brindavan Ashram.

Dining Hall, Brindavan Hostel, SSSIHL

A spacious Dining Hall capable of accommodating over 500 students was inaugurated, offering a serene, uplifting environment that serves not only as a place for meals but also as a Prayer-cum-Dining Hall—fostering both physical nourishment and spiritual enrichment.

The Warden, Dr. T. Ravi Kumar, reminisced about the sacred traditions that were initiated at the Brindavan Campus, such as the daily Brahmārpaṇam prayer and the chanting of the Sai Gayatri mantra before every meal—practices that invoke Bhagawan’s presence and elevate the act of eating into an offering.

Both Sri R.J. Rathnakar and Prof. B. Raghavendra Prasad fondly recalled the golden era of Divine proximity, highlighting the hall’s role as a tribute to Bhagawan’s vision of reverence in daily living. The facility stands as a symbol of love, grace, and sacred tradition, in alignment with the values cherished and nurtured by the Institute.

Seminar Hall, Brindavan Campus, SSSIHL

A state-of-the-art Seminar Hall with a seating capacity of 156 was inaugurated, built to serve as a vibrant centre for intellectual exchange and student engagement.

Equipped with a high-end interactive digital panel, advanced audio-visual systems, and ergonomic seating, the hall has been designed to support seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and a variety of academic events. The modern and aesthetically pleasing space reinforces SSSIHL’s ongoing commitment to delivering excellence in education and providing students with access to contemporary tools and platforms for learning and professional development.

Office of the Centre of Excellence in Actuarial Data Science (CADS)

In a significant academic advancement, the Office of the Centre of Excellence in Actuarial Data Science (CADS) at SSSIHL was formally inaugurated.

This Centre aims to position SSSIHL at the forefront of Actuarial Science education and research in India. The inauguration highlighted the Centre’s national and international accomplishments, including:

• India’s first two PhDs in Actuarial Science awarded in 2021
• CAS University Award 2022 – First Indian university recipient
• CAS Gold-Level Recognition 2023 – Only university in Asia with this distinction
• SOA UCAP Advanced Curriculum 2023 – Sole recipient in India

The Centre has produced over ten Fellows and Associates of international actuarial bodies like IFoA, CAS, SOA, and IAI, along with hundreds of students who have cleared multiple professional examinations.

Students have also made a mark globally, winning the IFoA and CAS Case Study Competitions 2024, demonstrating exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. The Centre embodies SSSIHL’s drive towards academic innovation, research leadership, and global competitiveness rooted in values-based education.

Faculty Room for the Department of Management and Commerce

A newly designed 6-seater Faculty Room was inaugurated to serve the faculty members of the MBA programme.

Furnished with modern amenities and a professional yet comfortable setting, the new facility enhances the academic work environment and promotes collaborative teaching and research. The development reflects the Institute’s continued dedication to providing world-class infrastructure for faculty growth and academic excellence, thereby strengthening the overall teaching-learning ecosystem.

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK. hosted the prestigious IFoA Industry–Academia Conclave at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), Brindavan campus, Whitefield, in Bangalore on 21st March 2025.

This landmark event brought together over 100 students from six leading institutions —Christ University, University of Madras, B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Institute of Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (IAQS), Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM), and the host SSSIHL—

It also welcomed eleven top organizations shaping the future of actuarial talent acquisition in India: Accenture, Swiss Re, Aon, Chubb, K.A. Pandit, CreditAccess Life Insurance Ltd., RSA Insurance, TransAsia Risk Advisors, KPMG India, PwC India, and Tech Actuarial.

Inaugural Ceremony

The event commenced with a sacred Vedam Chanting (Medha Suktam), and offering of prayers to the Goddess of Knowledge (Saraswati), followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp by Prof. B Raghavendra Prasad, Vice-Chancellor, SSSIHL, Ms. Katrina Thompson, President of IFoA, Mr. Vikas Newatia, Advisor, IFoA, and Mr. Satya Sai Mudigonda, Lead, Center of Excellence in Actuarial Data Science, SSSIHL, along with other dignitaries from academia and industry.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the significance of actuarial growth in India, the university’s unique value-based integral education system, and notable achievements such as the CAS Gold Level Recognition and SoA Advanced Curriculum.

Ms. Katrina Thompson, President of IFoA, delivered an engaging town hall address, sharing IFoA’s vision for the future and fostering dialogue among academia and industry stakeholders.

Roundtable Discussion: The Future of the Actuarial Profession

An exclusive, invite-only roundtable discussion on “The Future of the Actuarial Profession”, moderated by Ms. Katrina Thompson, President of IFoA, held at the start of the day, set the tone for the event

Panel Discussion: Cyber Risk

A key highlight of the conclave was an insightful panel discussion on “Cyber Risk”, exploring the evolving challenges in managing cyber threats. The discussion examined the current role of actuaries in cyber risk, gaps in actuarial involvement in cyber risk management, and innovative strategies for small businesses to mitigate cyber threats.

Moderated by Ms. Katrina Thompson, the panel featured leading experts Mr. Suresh Balakrishnan (Strategic Risk Consultant, TransAsia Advisors), Mr. Sony Anthony (Partner and Head – Cyber Defense & Incident Response, Global Head – Cyber in Deals, KPMG India), and Mr. Thilak Pandiyan (Director – Cyber Security & Privacy, PwC India), who shared invaluable insights on cyber risk management and how actuaries can contribute to cyber risk assessment and mitigation.

Student Showcase: Career Opportunities in Actuarial Science

The Student Showcase session provided young participants a unique opportunity to interact with five leading actuarial organizations: Accenture, Swiss Re, Chubb, Aon, and CreditAccess Life. Representatives from these firms presented diverse actuarial career pathways, fostering meaningful discussions and equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of career prospects in the actuarial industry.

The Centre for Actuarial Data Science (CADS) at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) had the esteemed opportunity to participate and present at the 24th Global Conference of Actuaries (GCA), held from 17th to 19th March 2025 at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake. The prestigious event was hosted by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) and centered around the theme, “Actuarial Excellence in the Age of Disruption.”

SSSIHL’s Presentation on Generative AI in Actuarial Science

The SSSIHL team was led by Mr. Satya Sai Mudigonda, Professor of Practice at CADS, along with Dr. Rohan Yashraj Gupta, Visiting Faculty, SSSIHL, an alumnus, and a qualified General Insurance (GI) Actuary currently associated with Accenture. They presented on “Innovative Applications of Generative AI in Actuarial Data Science” on 18th March, captivating the audience with insights on cutting-edge AI applications in actuarial work.

The session, chaired by Mr. Arunachalam Rajaraman, Past President of the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI), delved into AI-driven advancements in risk assessment, pricing strategies, and claims management. The highlight of the presentation was a live demonstration of CADS’ proprietary LLM-based fraud detection model—a web-based mobile application designed to identify complex fraud patterns, analyze unstructured data, and enhance fraud investigations. The interactive nature of the demo allowed attendees to experience the model firsthand, leading to thought-provoking discussions on its potential industry applications.

Engaging Discussions and Key Takeaways

The session witnessed an engaging Q&A segment, where participants posed insightful queries on LLM technology, ethical AI applications, and the future of AI-driven actuarial decision-making. The discussions underscored the growing importance of AI in actuarial practice and the need for responsible AI development in financial and insurance sectors.

The GCA is renowned for bringing together distinguished global speakers, industry leaders, and actuarial professionals, providing unmatched learning and networking opportunities. This year’s event was no exception, offering students, aspiring actuaries, and professionals a chance to engage with industry pioneers and explore emerging trends.

The participation of CADS at this esteemed forum underscores SSSIHL’s commitment to contributing to and shaping the future of actuarial data science through innovation and research.

A 10-member delegation representing the SSSIHL Center of Excellence in Actuarial Data Science participated in The IFoA India Conference 2024, held from 29 November to 1 December in New Delhi. Centered around the theme ‘Actuaries of the Future’, the landmark event brought together over 500 participants, including CXOs, CEOs, senior actuaries, university leaders, actuarial professionals, and students from India, the UK, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and other South Asian countries.

The highlight of the conference was the Actuarial Innovation Challenge 2024, where the SSSIHL Actuarial Alchemist team emerged as the winner among 10 finalists selected from over 157 teams. The team, comprising Anand Sai Gosikonda, Eshwar Sai AK, and Sai Chetan Kuncham, wowed the audience with their innovative product, Micro Business Resilience Insurance, designed to safeguard small businesses against unforeseen risks.

The three-day event opened with an inspiring keynote by Dr. Arvind Virmani, Member of NITI Aayog, and featured 15 specialized workshops exploring critical topics such as Explainable AI, climate risk, IFRS 17, and actuarial leadership in the financial sector.

On 30 November 2024, Karol Gawłowski (Chair, Actuarial Data Science at IFoA), Satya Sai Mudigonda (Visiting Faculty and Coordinator, SSSIHL Center of Excellence in Actuarial Data Science), and Dr. Rohan Yashraj Gupta (SSSIHL Alumnus and qualified GI Actuary) delivered an engaging session on Explainable AI (XAI). Karol offered an insightful deep dive into SHAP techniques, while Satya Sai Mudigonda and Rohan showcased practical applications of XAI through their case study, Ayushman Bharat Pricing and Fraud Detection Models.

Adding to the institute’s proud moments, SSSIHL alumnus Sankar Krishna was awarded his Associateship Certificate at the conference.

The delegation also leveraged networking opportunities to engage in meaningful discussions with the Presidents of IAI and IFoA, as well as actuarial educators and industry leaders from organizations such as Swiss Re, Accenture, Chubb, and IRDAI. These interactions paved the way for exploring the future of actuarial education and industry best practices.

These students excelled in analyzing a complex real-world business problem and presented their findings to senior actuaries in the USA, who judged their team as one of the top five winners internationally. Each team will receive a $500 gift card as a winning prize from the CAS.

The CAS Student Central Summer Program is an eight-week interactive professional and educational experience offered by the Casualty Actuarial Society. During these 8 weeks, participants will complete modules on Property and Casualty Basics, Excel, Data Visualization, Ratemaking, Reserving, Predictive Modeling, Soft Skills, and a Property and Casualty Case Competition. The program is designed and taught by practicing actuaries who are experts in the field of property and casualty insurance.
