The Department of Management & Commerce, SSSIHL, organized a hands-on workshop on Oracle APEX, in association with Oracle Academy, on the 17 August 2026. Conducted by the Oracle APEX team, the workshop provided II MBA students with practical exposure to low-code application development and its role in modern enterprise digital transformation.
The workshop was conducted by Sri Santhosh Kumar, Senior Manager – Product Management and Ms. Ankita Beri, Senior Product Manager of Oracle APEX, who brought valuable industry experience and practical insights into enterprise application development. The programme was organized and coordinated by Dr. L. Goverthanan, Professor of Practice – Finance, Department of Management & Commerce.
The workshop followed a learning-by-doing approach, enabling students to work directly with the Oracle APEX platform. Moving beyond a theoretical introduction, the session demonstrated how business requirements can be translated into functional applications with significantly reduced coding effort. This provided students with a practical understanding of how modern enterprises can accelerate application development while maintaining a strong focus on business needs.
Key Areas Covered
Rapid Application Development: Students explored how low-code platforms enable business requirements to be converted into working applications rapidly using reusable components, forms, reports and templates.
Data-Driven Decision Making: The workshop demonstrated how enterprise data can be presented through interactive reports and dashboards, enabling managers to derive meaningful insights and support informed decision-making.
Workflow & Process Automation: Students were introduced to the automation of routine business processes such as approvals, notifications and status tracking, highlighting the potential of technology to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Learning for Future Managers
The workshop reinforced an important message for management students: modern managers need to understand technology not merely as users, but as business leaders who can identify opportunities, articulate requirements and collaborate effectively with technology teams.
Hands-on exposure to Oracle APEX enabled students to appreciate how the gap between business requirements and technology implementation can be bridged through low-code platforms. Such capabilities are increasingly relevant in the areas of Digital Transformation, Business Analytics and Industry 4.0.
The programme also strengthened the industry–academia interface, giving students an opportunity to interact directly with professionals from Oracle and gain insights into contemporary enterprise technology practices.
