A team (SAI) representing the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, SSSIHL, under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. M. Meera, participated in “Millet Confluence 2023 – An Extravaganza of Ideas and Innovations,” 14-16 December 2023, organized by Padmashree Institute of Management and Sciences, Bangalore.
The team includes Ms. Sai Dharshini S, a research scholar, and two final-year postgraduate students, Ms. Srinidhi and Ms. G Harmitha from the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences.
The theme for the ideathon was “ready-to-use or ready-to-eat foods using millet’. 27 teams were tasked with conceiving an idea, developing a prototype, creating a 2-minute video illustrating the product-making process, and submitting a 2-page write-up along with a PowerPoint presentation, all in a span of 12 hours.
Team SAI won the First Prize along with a cash prize of Rs.10,000, for their winning concept on the creation of multi-millet muesli. Their concept showcased creativity and innovation in the realm of millet-based food products.
In the ‘Poster Presentation’ round, Ms. G. Harmitha a final-year M.Sc. student secured the 3rd position. She received a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize.
The Poster titled “Little Millet (Nutri-cereal): A Nutrient-Rich Powerhouse for Health and Wellness – Exploring the Potential of Little Millet Milk as a Suitable Alternative in Different Food Products- A Review” is part of Ms. Harmitha’s M.Sc. Project work in the area of Food Product development, under the supervision of Dr. M. Srijaya.
Millet Confluence 2023 is a multi-faceted national conference aimed at bringing together innovators, researchers, and industry professionals to explore and celebrate the incredible potential of millets in addressing global food security, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. The event offers a diverse array of activities spread across technical sessions, oral presentations, poster presentations, product exhibitions, and ideation to develop a viable millet production value chain and to improve ways to reach the most vulnerable population with nutritious foods intending to eliminate the problem of food and nutrition insecurity.
